35+ Division defeats 18+ Division 8-5

July 2016 All-Star Game

In year's past, our league's All Star Games haven't held much meaning with too many representatives and playing on days when our league already had other games scheduled.  Games were intra-division and didn't hold much meaning.  That changed this year.  On a day where rained surrounded the Stadium, somehow we avoided any thunderstorms or rain until one out in the 9th.  A great day and evening of baseball.

Congratulations go out to John Daly of the Royals for winning our home run hitting contest and the cash prize. Nine entrants battled it out.  Myles Weiler, Tigers and Matt Bell, Pirates qualified along with Daly for the finals.  After Bell and Weiler hit their rounds, Daly iced the event midway through his round with a final blow that left the yard quickly.  Nice job John!

Old Men 8, Young Guns 5:  In one of the best games played this year, the 35+ Division defeated the 18+ Division 8-5.  Four lead changes throughout the game and several big play capped off by a few plays at the plate, when the dust settled, and aided by a few key miscues, the old men came out on top.  Co-MVP Steve Aurigemma went 3-3 with a double and RBI, while Co-MVP P-Harry Bonhamme threw three scoreless.  On the 18's, Dan Slate went 3-3 with a stolen base and run scored and Jonathan Rosa threw two scoreless innings working out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th unscathed.  Matt Peters also went 2-2 with a stolen base and run scored.  Congrats to both squads for playing such a memorable game and to all fans as well for helping raise money for the Grace Smith House.

Rosters were selected by either team managers or players on those teams.  For our 18+ squad, teams were alloted two guaranteed spots per team, while 35+ teams were guaranteed one roster spot and the top five teams in the standings were each allotted one additional spot.  Additional players added based either upon merit and/or to ensure each team had enough pitching, especially since every team in our 18+ division plays a double-header the Sunday after the game.  Team captains added that will be player-captains to head up each squad, players that have been in each league for a while that represent our league well and have had great years.

* - selected, but will not be participating. Other replacements may happen until game-day.

** - Player coach

18+ Sean McChain replaces Steve Silvernail.  35+ Luis Gonzalez replaces Jim Petrosino.

Community Outreach Partner for the Game - We are proud to announce that our 2016 Community Outreach for this game will be the Grace Smith House which provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children.  A $5 suggested minimum donation ($10 families, two or more adults, kids free!) is requested of all adults attending that night's game with 100% of the proceeds collected by and used by the Grace Smith House.  They will have a representative on hand to promote awareness of domestic violence and what the mission of the organization is. Westchester MSBL vs. Hudson Valley MSBLTuesday September 6th our local All Stars will play the Westchester All Stars in a regional battle of local leagues.  Mark your calendars for new rivalry.
